12 of Scotland’s best young contemporary dancers jetted off to India last month to perform at the Dance Bridges Festival in Kolkata.
The National Youth Dance Company of Scotland battled intense heat and monsoon rain to rehearse and perform their 2016 piece Maelstrom, choreographed by Anna Kenrick (YDance Artistic Director), and their 2017 piece Re|place (Or, the thing I miss most), by award-winning choreographer, Yael Flexer, at the Festival which ran from 22nd to 29th August, 2017.
In addition to the performances by the full NYDCS Company, three company members were selected to perform in Under This Weight (Falling) by choreographer Dam Van Huynh, which was re-staged as part of the festival. Taylor Han, Rachel Laird and Adam McArtney worked with other festival artists in this unique crossover project.
NYDCS dancer, Katelyn said:
“The highlights of the trip have been meeting new people, sharing experiences of India, the culture, the brightness – it’s just a different way of living. So original and everyone is so different from each other. It was an amazing trip.”
