YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) Dance Development Officer, Caroline Burnside scooped the Time to Shine Arts and Creativity Award at the National Youth Work Awards this month.
The award ceremony, organised by YouthLink Scotland and held at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow, was a celebration of youth work and the youth workers who make a difference in the lives of young people every year.
Caroline was nominated for her work on the Me and You project, a programme delivered by YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) – the national dance organisation for children and young people in Scotland. The Me and You project delivers creative and imaginative movement and play sessions to young parents and their children aged five years and under. In this two-year project, Caroline takes the parent and child on an imaginary journey using props, songs, movement and fun to explore the world through little eyes and reinforce the bond between parent and child.
Caroline said:
“I am so excited to have won this award – it was a massive surprise! I absolutely love what I do and to be recognised is a real honour. I love being able to use dance in creative ways to empower young people and I’m so thankful to be in a role I adore with an opportunity to make a difference.”

“Caroline works so hard for all young people she meets and designs sessions that are unique for each of them. You can see she leaves a bit of herself with every young person she works with. She is so passionate about her work that she often goes above and beyond for the young people she works with and they always look forward to their next session with her. It’s wonderful that all of her amazing work has been formally recognised by winning this award.”
