Our Take the Lead Celebration Day took place on Saturday 8 December at Greenwood Academy.
The day celebrated the achievements and hard work of the young people who attend our weekly dance sessions in Garnock Valley, Irvine, Kilwinning, North Shore and Three Towns.
The dancers had been working with their tutors over the last few months to put together a fantastic performance. The participants spent the morning attending dance workshops with YDance staff before performing in front of family, friends and invited guests.
Take the Lead is a three-year project which works with young people in North Ayrshire and HMYOI Polmont.
Using dance, the programme aims to increase ambition and aspiration by building young peoples’ confidence and capacity, health and wellbeing, and developing the behavioural, social and emotional skills they need to engage and progress into further learning and employability.
As part of their involvement, young people also work towards a recognised accreditation.
Take the Lead is funded by Cash Back for Creativity.
The project is run in partnership with North Ayrshire Active Schools and North Ayrshire Council.
