Two youth dance groups from Scotland will travel to London this July to perform at the famous Southbank Centre as part of the U.Dance youth dance festival.
Fusion Youth Dance Company from Citymoves Dance Agency in Aberdeen were chosen to perform at the festival when a panel of judges selected them out of 13 youth dance groups performing at YDance Destinations, an annual showcase of the best youth dance companies from across Scotland run by YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) back in March. Their piece ‘When the land crumbles, I will run through water’, choreographed by Steven Martin, is a glimpse into the human spirit and performed by seven dancers aged between 14 and 19 years.
The National Youth Dance Company of Scotland, the flagship contemporary dance company for Scotland’s exceptional young dancers aged 16 to 21, have also been invited to perform as special guests at U.Dance. The company will perform their piece ‘For Those Who Wait’, choreographed by YDance Artistic Director Anna Kenrick. The performance at U.Dance will be the final date of the company’s 2019 tour which sees them perform in Stirling, Dundee, France and Australia.
Presented by industry body One Dance UK in partnership with ISTD, U.Dance showcases a selection of the best dance groups from all over the UK in a range of performances. It also gives hundreds of young people the opportunity to take part in workshops and masterclasses with dance industry professionals, inspire each other with a love of dance and develop their understanding within the dance sector.
Anna Kenrick, YDance Artistic Director said:
“YDance values the partnership we have with One Dance UK which enables U.Dance to be a UK wide programme. It is very important that Scottish groups get the opportunity to perform alongside other talented young dance groups, see the inspirational work being made and be involved in the UK wide youth dance sector.”
