From Estonia and Dublin, to Glasgow, Newcastle and Edinburgh – there’s plenty of opportunity to see the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland perform in 2023!
May will see the dancers travel to Tallinn, Estonia to take part in an exchange with the young dancers of Koolitantsu Kompanii. The two companies will work with Anna Kenrick to create a new collaborative piece of work to premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August. The company will round off their Estonian trip by performing The Art of Falling, their 2023 piece choreographed by Anna Kenrick and directed by Philippa Clark, at the Estonia Festival on Sunday 7th May.
July is a packed month when NYDCS perform The Art of Falling at the Irish Youth Dance Festival in Dublin on Saturday 1st July, before returning to Scotland to perform at Tramway, Glasgow as part of Project Y Evolution – a showcase of YDance’s performance groups – on Saturday 15th July. As well as the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland, the evening will include performances by the Project Y Evolution Company, Horizons Inclusive Youth Dance Company and the participants of the Hothouse young choreographer’s course. There will also be a special guest performance by Dublin Youth Dance Company. The final performance of the month will be at One Dance UK’s UDance Festival at Dance City, Newcastle on Sunday 23rd July.
The 2023 tour will culminate with performances at Edinburgh’s famous Fringe Festival from Friday 4th – Sunday 6th August at Dance Base. Performed by the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland and Estonia’s Koolitantsu Kompanii, this exciting triple bill of electric, highly physical contemporary dance will explore the concepts of falling, resilience and connection in this uncertain and chaotic world. Both companies will perform an individual piece before coming together for the world premiere of their joint work created in Tallinn and Glasgow.
