Tam O'Shanter

Tam O’Shanter (2009)

2009 was Scotland’s Year of Homecoming, when the Scottish Government welcomed visitors from around the world who came to explore their Scottish heritage and roots.

As part of the year-long celebration, Event Scotland commissioned YDance, Scottish Youth Theatre and the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland to create a new performance piece involving dance, music and theatre based on the poem Tam O’Shanter by Robert Burns.

A new script brought Tam into the 21st century, and, with original music played on bagpipes and drums and contemporary choreography, brought out the relevance of Tam’s cautionary tale to young people today and the production played to sold out audiences at Stirling Castle, Haddo House in Aberdeenshire and Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.
