Teaching Resources
At YDance, we value dance as both a physical activity and as an expressive art. We strive to aid the development of children’s appreciation for dance in school by supporting teachers. YDance has created useful and relevant educational resources to support teachers delivering dance as part of the curriculum in Scottish educational settings to enable learning through and about dance.
The experiences and outcomes for dance as part of the Curriculum for Excellence can offer exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary work with other areas of the curriculum. The flexibility of dance as a standalone subject as well as a pedagogical tool for interdisciplinary learning makes dance an effective vehicle to explore many subject areas, including literacy, science, history and more.

Our downloadable Shake It Up resource packs, focus on a specific topic from the curriculum with six in-depth lesson plans, each covering a different theme and focus. Each individual lesson plan includes multiple layered and developed activities to help pupils explore learning topics through creative movement. They are designed to support the teacher in delivering a themed lesson across a full day or they can be broken down into multiple shorter sessions.

Our resource posters are designed to support both teachers’ and pupils’ understanding of the fundamental components of dance composition at National 5 and Higher level for SQA Dance. These posters provide visual representations of required knowledge for the choreography component of the dance syllabus at both levels and provide an excellent teaching and learning aid.
