“I learnt some of the history in my area and what a dancing project outside can do for my mental health and happiness.”
If Not You Then Who? (INYTW)
INYTW is an imaginative, innovative, and liberating project designed for S1 pupils to connect with their local environment, develop their understanding of climate change, and explore how it impacts both the natural world and Scotland’s historical landmarks.
In partnership with Historic Environment Scotland (HES), the programme aims to:
To increase young people’s understanding of climate change and its impact on heritage.
To encourage pupils to raise awareness among their peers and take action through creative expression.
To develop skills in dance, history, and science while building a range of transferable meta skills.
For the past two years, YDance and Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have ran the project successfully in the Borders and the Highlands.
This year we were working with S1 pupils from Holycross High School, culminating in a dance film being created at Bothwell Castle. Pupils explored the castle’s history, its use of a circular economy, and the impact of climate change through dance and film.
231 young people took part in taster workshops.

“I enjoyed learning how to be creative by exploring the theme and all the different shapes that you and your group can make with their bodies to tell a story.”
