ReCharge
This three-day intensive course, ran in partnership with Dance Base and The Work Room, offers experienced and emerging dance artists and teachers, time to come together to reflect on and develop their teaching practice. ReCharge ran for the first time in 2025 and was a resounding success with a wide range of artists and practitioners attending to connect with their peers across the sector.

Day 1 and 2, is a practical and theoretical intensive to develop and refresh your teaching practice in youth, community and educational settings. You will:
explore YDance’s inclusive methodologies and pedagogy explore developmental, inclusive and creative teaching approaches
develop skills for working with vulnerable or challenging groups
understand the basics of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding
experience a range of choreographic and creative tasks for educational and community settings
Day 3
A practical and theoretical day to expand and critically reflect on your teaching practice in youth, community and educational settings. You will:
reflect on your teaching practice by exploring the current context and landscape for youth and community dance
share your own knowledge and skills and network with other practioners
develop your knowledge and reflect on your trauma informed practice.
(It is desirable that you have completed day 1 and 2 before participating in day 3 or you are an experienced teaching artist in a range of settings.)

ReCharge will be led by Anna Kenrick (Artistic Director, YDance), Gillian Montgomery (Head of Programmes, YDance) and Kelly Shearer (Executive Director and Safeguarding lead, YDance)
Together, they will support you in refining your skills and confidence, facilitate discussions and share the cornerstones of the YDance teaching methodologies and pedagogy, ensuring that your teaching empowers young people to learn through dance and about dance.

Dance Base, and The Work Room, are offering four fully-funded bursary places for teaching dance artists to attend the three-day training programme. The bursary covers each person for the training fee of up to £80 and up to £60 for travel and expenses, with additional access support available if required.
Deadline for bursaries – 7th May
Successful applicants notified by 15th May.
If your bursary application is unsuccessful there is no pressure or obligation to attend the course.
