What is Take Flight?

Take Flight is an innovative graduate training programme specifically designed for emerging choreographers and teaching artists aged 21-25. This unique opportunity supports participants in exploring and refining their choreographic and teaching practices. It aims to build skills for working effectively with dancers, expand professional networks, and enhance teaching and choreographic methodologies.

Participants in the programme will engage in intensive choreographic labs and practical and theoretical sessions that delve into questions about choreographic practices and teaching methodologies. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to observe YDance staff in various settings, participate in mentoring sessions with the YDance artistic director, and have the space to reflect on their teaching or choreographic practices critically.

The programme runs once a year, lasting 3-6 months, and is open to 1 or 2 artists. Fidelio Charitable Trust and Garrick Charitable Trust currently support it.

Take Flight offers an unparalleled opportunity for growth and development as a choreographer and teaching artist, with comprehensive support throughout the journey.

Meet this year's Take Flight Artist:

Laura Booth

I am a dance artist and yoga teacher based in Aberdeen, Scotland. I bring movement into people’s lives because I believe it can create change, build communities of care and help people connect to joy. I dance with people who may not have experienced dance before, people who are living with cancer, refugees, asylum seekers, people with additional support needs, younger people and older people. Through my dance practice, I care for people, helping them step into their power and create energy together. As a performer, I love storytelling, play, the physicality found through movement, and being a part of interactive work and performances in outdoor/non-theatre spaces.
